When the weather man tells you there is a winter storm warning…
We did not.
Plug in your phones, iPads, etc. to get them all charged up.
Make sure your posts are ready to go for the next couple of days.
Turn up the heat in your house above 65 just in case you lose power.
And most importantly, stock up on yummy comfort food to warm you on the inside when your thermostat plunges.
Learn from my mistakes.
We woke up this morning to a few inches of fresh, white, HEAVY snow on the ground.
We went outside and built a 7 foot snowman. Heavy snow makes just the best snowmen.
Then we heard a crack and a crash and saw branches snapping from trees from the weight of the snow.
And then the phone line came down.
Good-bye wireless network.
Now, what did we do?
We came inside and made cocoa and cinnamon rolls. We did not turn up the heat in the house or charge our precious gadgets thinking ahead that possibly we might lose power.
I even went back outside to haul more branches from walkways and to knock mounds of snow off of the other remaining trees.
I got wetter and colder.
Then we lost power.
Good-bye heat, electricity and afternoon coffee.
I sit here operating from my iPad watching my battery dwindle. With each percentage loss my heartbeat quickens knowing that I am running out of time.
Don’t worry, tomorrow you will still learn the winner of my writing contest. I worked furiously on that last night and just put the finishing touches on it now.
I do have some priorities straight. Just not the right ones.
Why didn’t I buy that bag of Cheetos when I had the chance? Huh? Why?
I am going to take my remaining 30% battery life and google hotels that accept dogs.
Until we meet again… stay warm, charge your gadgets and, for the love of all that is good and holy, always have comfort food on hand.
